The Kroger Co. is holding its second nationwide hybrid hiring event, including virtual and on-site interviews, this Wednesday, Oct. 13. The organization's mission is to hire 20,000 associates by finding talent for retail, e-commerce, manufacturing, supply chain, merchandising, logistics, corporate, and pharmacy and healthcare roles.

Over its 10-year history, foodservice specialist Mr. Greens Produce Inc. has moved four times in South Florida to accommodate the tremendous growth it has realized.

On September 21, 2021, it celebrated its 10th anniversary and held a grand opening event for its latest company headquarters, which is a state-of-the-art, 158,000-square-foot facility in Miami.  CEO Nick Politis, who is one of the owners of the operation, told The Produce News that the company actually moved into the facility in January, but the celebration was delayed to coincide with its August anniversary.

Christopher Shinn Gardella, who spent more than 50 years working in the produce industry, died in Oxnard, CA, Monday, Sept. 13. He was 68.

Mr. Gardella began his esteemed 44-year produce career in 1977 in Philadelphia, where he learned the agribusiness of deciduous fruits from the ground up. His work spanned the globe and often took him to Chile.

During the 1990s Mr. Gardella moved to Bakersfield, CA, and worked for several growers in marketing and sales capacities. Most recently, he started his own sales and marketing firm, CSG Marketing, selling specialty grapes for international markets

As the fall season is upon us, the leafy greens farming community would like to share some updates on the California LGMA Food Safety Program.  The LGMA brings farmers together to make lettuce and leafy greens safer and in 2021 much has already been accomplished by the organization and its members who produce over 30 billion servings of lettuce and leafy greens a year.

In early October, representatives from Tops Markets including Brandon Bentley, Kristen Hanson and Jeff Cady along with Healthy Family Project’s Trish James presented the FeedMore WNY food bank with a donation of 80,000 meals from the spring 2021 Tops Produce for Kids in-store cause marketing campaign. The check was presented as part of a Walk Off Hunger event in Buffalo, NY, a community awareness and fundraising event for the region supported by the food bank. The donation will be split among several food banks in the Tops geographical footprint.
